200 Smoke Hatches for the Conex Distribution IașI Logistics Center

An impressive project that involved the installation of almost 200 smoke hatches for the logistics center of one of the largest distributors of spare parts, accessories, and consumables in Romania for domestic and imported car brands, Conex Distribution.

Horizontal and Vertical Smoke Hatches for Smoke Extraction Surfaces Required by the Fire Protection Scenario

To comply with building regulations (production facilities and offices) for obtaining the fire operation authorization, KADRA delivered and installed almost 200 smoke hatches, both horizontal and vertical, with pneumatic operation. These are vertical smoke hatches with an aluminum frame and closure made of 16 mm thick alveolar polycarbonate.

Additionally, there are horizontal hatches with a metal base, for installation on the parapet or directly on the roof, with a dome made of thermoformed cellular polycarbonate, 16 mm thick. The horizontal hatches are equipped with an external opening system for periodic maintenance operations, a system that facilitates and streamlines the maintenance of the hatches.

Through the large dimensions of the hatches (maximum dimensions up to 3510 mm in length and 2500 mm in width), as well as the high aerodynamic coefficients of the installed hatches, the aerodynamic smoke extraction surfaces required by the fire protection scenario were efficiently ensured with minimal costs.

Smoke Hatches Allow the Protection of People and the Building

Smoke hatches help evacuate smoke and release heat from an enclosure; they can be integrated into a partition wall (including ceiling, roof) that separates the interior of a building from the exterior. The regulation requires the device to have an opening angle greater than or equal to 30 degrees.

Smoke hatches have a dual role: ensuring personnel safety and protecting the building in case of fire. By automatically opening the smoke hatches, hot gases and smoke are quickly evacuated, keeping evacuation routes visible and thus protecting the people inside. Oxygen entry and toxic gas elimination are also ensured. In most fire cases, the majority of victims are caused by lack of oxygen rather than contact with fire or hot gases.

Building protection is achieved by evacuating heat, preventing the flash-over phase (the moment when all combustible materials in the enclosure suddenly ignite, reaching very high temperatures of 1000-2000°C). Maintaining visibility in the building will allow firefighter teams to easily intervene to extinguish the fire.

Conex Distribution is a prestigious Romanian company that always prioritizes the protection of people and the goods it houses in its logistics centers; by opting for KADRA’s fire protection solutions, Conex Distribution has ensured that it benefits from the appropriate systems to achieve this long-term objective, in compliance with all current regulations.
