KADRA, window and ventilation automation

Window and ventilation automation

Window automation plays an essential role in optimizing building ventilation and safety. Whether it’s offices, shopping centers, hospitals, or industrial facilities, automation solutions must be tailored to the needs of each project.

KADRA's approach

To meet current requirements for energy efficiency and building safety, window automation solutions must comply with existing standards and regulations. Implementing such systems contributes to obtaining green building certifications, such as BREEAM, LEED, DGNB, CASBEE, or GREEN STAR, accounting for between 3% and 11% of the overall construction score.

Products

Rack Actuators

Due to the rack-and-pinion mechanism, they allow large opening strokes and develop pulling/pushing forces of up to 1000 N.

Chain Actuators

They are ideal for windows of medium size and weight, suitable for both ventilation and smoke extraction.

Linear Actuators

They are used for automatic operation of a variety of movable elements, including outward-opening windows, ventilation flaps, and roof hatches.

Pneumatic Actuators

The efficiency of pneumatic opening systems is particularly high due to special materials that reduce friction force inside the cylinders.

Actuators Integrated into BMS Systems

They are equipped with integrated control modules and allow bidirectional communication, being directly integrable into building management systems (BMS).

Service and Maintenance

Automated windows often serve two roles: they open daily for ventilation and must open fully in case of fire, to allow smoke evacuation. Daily use wears down the actuators, fixings, and opening mechanisms. Periodic maintenance checks whether these components can still perform both functions.

Inspections differ depending on the type of actuation. For rack and chain actuators, the opening stroke, the force developed, and the condition of the mounting brackets on the window frame are checked. For pneumatic systems, the circuit’s airtightness and the pressure source are verified. Wind, rain, and temperature sensors are also tested, along with communication with the BMS system and the priority of the smoke extraction command over regular ventilation commands.

In buildings with many automated windows, such as libraries, theaters, industrial halls, or office buildings, a window that no longer closes properly affects comfort and energy consumption, while one that no longer opens can compromise smoke extraction. A consistent service and maintenance program keeps the system ready for both situations.

Why Choose Window and Ventilation Automation from KADRA

Window automation optimizes ventilation, energy efficiency, and building safety. KADRA offers customized solutions tailored to each project, with a discreet design and advanced functionality.

Intelligent Ventilation

Automations ensure optimal air flow, improving indoor air quality and occupant comfort.

Energy Efficiency

Through intelligent control, systems reduce energy consumption and contribute to green building certifications.

Integration into BMS Systems

Automations can be connected to building management systems for centralized and efficient control.

Fire Safety

The solutions comply with I.G.S.U. requirements, facilitating smoke evacuation and protecting building occupants.

Technology and sustainability

KADRA’s window automations not only improve comfort and safety but also contribute to building sustainability in several ways. In addition, these systems comply with the approval requirements of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (I.G.S.U.), ensuring both energy efficiency and fire safety.

Reduced energy consumption

A variable air volume (VAV) ventilation system, based on intelligent window automations, can generate electricity savings of between 10% and 21%, especially during transitional seasons.

Improved indoor air quality

Automated natural ventilation solutions ensure a healthy environment, with a direct impact on the health and productivity of building users.

Design

KADRA’s window automation solutions are designed to integrate harmoniously into various types of architecture, offering:

  • Versatility: The actuators can be fitted to windows with top or bottom hinges, opening inward or outward, adapting to the specific needs of each project.
  • Aesthetics: The compact, modern design of the actuators ensures discreet integration into the window structure, preserving the building’s overall aesthetic.
  • Functionality: The automations allow windows to open and close safely, either automatically or on user command, contributing to occupant comfort and security.

Through these features, KADRA provides window automation solutions that combine advanced technology with adaptable design, meeting contemporary requirements for efficiency, aesthetics, and compliance with current regulations.

Frequently asked questions

A window automation system allows windows to open and close automatically through electric motors and a control system. It can be used for daily ventilation, temperature control, and smoke exhaust in the event of a fire.

Window automation allows ventilation control without manual intervention and helps maintain a comfortable indoor climate. In addition, it can reduce energy consumption by using natural ventilation when outdoor conditions allow.

Yes. Depending on the chosen configuration, automated windows can provide both daily ventilation and smoke and hot gas exhaust in the event of a fire. The system is designed according to the building’s requirements and applicable regulations.

Yes. In many cases, existing windows can be fitted with motors and control systems without replacing the window frames. Compatibility depends on the window’s size, weight, and type.

Automated windows can be controlled via local buttons, temperature, wind, or rain sensors, building management systems (BMS), and smoke extraction control panels. The operating mode is established according to the project’s requirements.

Window automations are used in office buildings, schools, hospitals, shopping centers, industrial halls, and other structures that require natural ventilation or smoke extraction in case of fire.

In the event of a fire, the system can receive commands from the detection and smoke extraction control panel and can automatically open the designated windows for the evacuation of smoke and hot gases. The exact configuration depends on the fire safety design.

Maintenance includes checking the motors, control systems, sensors, and opening mechanisms. Periodic inspections help ensure proper operation for both daily ventilation and emergency situations.
