Fire and Smoke Protection Measures for Hospitals

The safety of patients and medical staff is very important in hospitals and must be considered from the foundation of the building. There are several measures that can be taken to protect the lives of those in hospitals. Among these are fire-resistant doors, also found in the TORMED range, available in metal and wood versions.

For a safe environment, a modern hospital (built to European standards) must be equipped with special fire/smoke protection equipment in case of fire. This way, the effects of a fire are prevented or minimized as much as possible, and patients and medical staff can evacuate the building safely.

This ‘special protection equipment’ is also found in the TORMED range and consists of:

with which it started. Among these is the replacement of doors with safe and reliable ones. The colleagues at KADRA have installed a complete portfolio of doors: from fire-resistant doors for 90 or 120 minutes, to multifunctional metal doors, to cleanroom doors from the TORMED range, specially designed by KADRA specialists for the medical sector.

Fire and Smoke Curtains

These are solutions designed to prevent the spread of fire and smoke and to secure evacuation routes for people in a building where a fire has started. Curtains are mobile protection elements that automatically deploy in case of fire and have the great advantage of not affecting the aesthetic environment, as they can be installed hidden in the ceiling and walls of the building. Fire curtains can protect both corridors and door and window openings.

They can also be used to double the sliding doors of operating rooms if they are on evacuation routes.

Fire Protection Measures – Fire-resistant Doors Made of Metal and Wood

Metal fire protection doors are available with one or two leaves. They have technical approval EI in Romania for fire protection. They are available in versions with fire resistance approval for 30, 60, and 90 minutes. The most requested door is Univer 90 with a single leaf. The doors can be equipped with stainless steel strips for protection against accidental impacts with hospital beds, with closers for closing control, or with access control systems for people. If installed on access routes for people with disabilities or patients transported on hospital beds, it is recommended that the doors open automatically, controlled by sensors or easily accessible buttons.

What is the Univer door? It is a door constructed from galvanized steel casing, with reinforcing material inside, total thickness of 60 mm. The ‘Z’ type frame on 4 sides is fixed with anchors or dowels and has a removable lower crosspiece. It has a fire latch, CE marked in accordance with EN 12209 standard, a cylindrical keyhole, and an anti-hook handle with a steel core.

The door surface is treated with epoxy resin against scratches, and the doors are approved in Romania according to technical approval no. 016-03/400-2012. Univer features thermo-expandable seals, optional fire-resistant glass can be installed, panic bar, retractable threshold. You can also opt for a wide range of colors, as well as special decorations.

Fire-resistant wooden doors are dedicated to arrangements where aesthetic appearance is important, giving rooms a much warmer and friendlier atmosphere.
