KADRA's Salon Door Solutions Contribute to Preventing the Spread of Infections in Hospitals
Salon doors: how to choose a safe access solution for patients and doctors to prevent the spread of infections?
We all know that infections are the silent killer in hospitals. Hospital-acquired infections, or nosocomial infections, are those infections that a patient develops during hospitalization. The main microorganisms that can cause hospital-acquired infections are bacteria, fungi, and viruses. The spread of these infections is especially favored by the fact that patients have weakened immune systems during hospitalization, thus presenting a higher risk of contracting an infection. Among the bacteria responsible for the occurrence of hospital-acquired infections are: Staphylococcus aureus, E. coli, and Enterococcus.
How are Infections Transmitted in Hospitals?
Viruses, fungi, and bacteria most often spread through direct contact from one person to another. For example, they are transmitted through dirty hands or through used medical instruments (catheters, devices that help patients breathe, and other used instruments).
Another way of transmitting infections in hospitals is through contaminated water, contaminated food, contact with infected people, the surrounding environment, medical staff, contact with commonly used objects, as well as surfaces used by the same people (tables, beds, etc.).
Due to the fact that antibiotics are often used excessively or improperly, bacteria become resistant to multiple types of antibiotics.
“The national program for surveillance and limitation of healthcare-associated infections and microbial resistance, as well as monitoring the use of antibiotics,” implemented by the Ministry of Health, identified, in 2018, according to the “2018 Activity Report of the Ministry of Health,” a number of 11,947 healthcare-associated infections in hospitals in Romania.
Most hospital-acquired infections were reported in 2017 in Bucharest, Iași, Cluj, Timiș, Sibiu, Galați, and Dâmbovița. On the opposite end, with the fewest reported infection cases, are the counties of Covasna, Ialomița, Giurgiu, Gorj, and Tulcea, each county having under 65 reported cases.
Among the main measures that can be taken to prevent nosocomial infections are:
- Analyzing intensive care units to determine if people who have acquired an infection in the hospital need to be isolated from other patients
- Identifying the type of isolation needed to protect other patients in the hospital and reduce the risk of infection
- Carefully monitoring the fulfillment of hand hygiene procedures, specifically washing hands before and after touching hospital patients
- Using appropriate equipment by doctors and all hospital staff: gloves, gowns, medical masks
- Proper cleaning and disinfection of the medical space: operating rooms, salons, corridors, sanitary objects
- Adequate ventilation of salons
Salon Doors – Contribute to Preventing the Spread of Hospital-Acquired Infections
Another extremely effective way to prevent the spread of infections in hospitals is the proper use of salon doors.
KADRA’s salon door portfolio ensures safety and protection, being especially intended for clean rooms in hospitals. Through the Tormed product brand, we have developed a line of hospital doors that meet the complex requirements of builders, installers, and which, through refined design, also satisfy the vision of architects.
KADRA medical doors have a construction that does not allow dust to settle, having a coplanar glass with the panel, thus they are very easy to clean and prevent the spread of bacteria, viruses, and fungi. Moreover, due to the materials used (HPL), the medical doors in our portfolio can be cleaned with specific substances without degrading.
With “U” type stainless steel handles and stainless steel hinges, our salon door models offer protection to staff, reducing the risk of injury.
Last but not least, the panel construction ensures good thermal and sound insulation in salons and, moreover, additional sealing with a retractable threshold can be opted for.
