Radiology Door – the Newest Radiotherapy Technology, Now in Romania

It has already been 5 months since cancer patients in Bucharest have benefited from modern treatment solutions. In March of this year (2013), the Amethyst Radiotherapy Center was opened, offering a range of facilities: the latest radiotherapy technologies, qualified staff trained in clinics in Western Europe, and a hospitable center aligned with current health standards, where patients feel comfortable and safe.

KADRA participated in the creation of this center, providing solutions for access routes to the rooms where radiotherapy treatments are applied. The radiology doors that allow access to the treatment rooms are constructed from lead and weigh approximately 200 kg. The lead layer is used to stop the propagation of emitted radiation, which is harmful to the human body.

These radiology doors are automated, being operated upon opening by a system synchronized with the device that emits radiation. The lead doors close automatically and can only be opened in emergency mode when the device is in operation. Thus, the risk of allowing uncontrolled access to areas where radiation-emitting equipment is used is completely eliminated.

The project was complex, involving the synchronization of automation with radiology equipment, as well as providing and adjusting control options through the command console and emergency buttons.

The automations serving these anti-radiation doors have a weight handling capacity of 200 kg, comply with European standards, are built with the latest technologies, and are tested for heavy traffic. At the Amethyst clinic, each radiology door is operated approximately 2,000 times a month.

Wel automations, offered exclusively in Romania by KADRA and specially designed for swing doors, include important facilities for users: they can be manually operated in emergencies, have obstacle detection systems, allow speed adjustment for opening/closing, and are adapted for clean environments required in clinics, hospitals, laboratories.

Radiology Door – Mavromati BotoșAni County Emergency Hospital – Lead Doors for Radiation Therapy Protection

In June 2013, KADRA provided a series of equipment for access routes to the Mavromati County Emergency Hospital in Botoșani. Among these are solutions compliant with European standards for radiation shielding (X-ray screening): sliding doors plated with lead (radiology doors), equipped with automations that allow controlled opening/closing.

Both the radiology doors and automations are designed for the medical field: they allow easy cleaning with strong solvents, prevent dust accumulation, offer user protection, allow synchronization with hospital equipment, comply with industry standards, are tested in such environments, and benefit from extended warranty.

Lead doors represent the most reliable solution for preventing radiation propagation. KADRA offers complete solutions in this field, from the most common doors – steel doors plated with lead (thickness between 1 and 3 mm), to special lead doors, which can reach thicknesses of 40–50 mm.

Radiology Doors for Saint John Hospital in Suceava

In 2012, KADRA participated in the modernization project of Saint John Hospital in Suceava as a supplier of radiology door systems. Four steel radiology doors, plated with 2 mm lead sheet, were installed at this hospital according to the specifications. The technology used complies with current industry standards.

The installation of the radiology doors was carried out by a specialized team, which, following the installation procedure, identified the optimal solutions for the situation on site. The lead doors offered by KADRA provide protection even in the case of reflected radiation – the lower part of the door is “buried” to ensure shielding even for rays that propagate at a small angle.
