Roof Hatches
Hotel Ambar, classified as 4 stars, is an investment of over 3 million Euros, located in Giurgiu Municipality. With a business profile, the hotel offers 26 rooms, a conference hall, a fitness and aerobics room, plus a restaurant.
As expected for such an investment, compliance with fire safety requirements was a priority for the owner, and according to the fire scenario requirements, both a smoke hatch and a smoke extraction window were needed. Additionally, a manually operated hatch was requested for occasional access to the terrace-type roof.
To ensure optimal thermal insulation performance, roof hatches with a sheet metal base, insulated with mineral wool, were delivered. Both roof hatches had dimensions of 1000 x 900 mm, one being manually operated for roof access, and the other being an electric hatch with dual functions:
- smoke and hot gas evacuation in case of fire (for organized natural draft smoke extraction);
- daily automated natural ventilation.
Apart from smoke evacuation, for the other component of smoke extraction – fresh air intake – we automated an existing window by installing a chain motor. Thus, a complete smoke extraction solution for the stairwell was achieved.
Certification and CE Marking
Both the smoke hatches and the motors for fresh air intake or smoke extraction windows, delivered by KADRA, are covered by legal certifications, according to EN 12101-2 and P118/99, certifications necessary for obtaining the fire safety approval from IGSU.
In the case of the hotel in Giurgiu, the project included two openings in the roof, which is why the access function hatch was separated. For roof hatches with dimensions up to 1200 x 1200 mm, the mechanism of a classic electric hatch does not leave enough free space for a person to exit onto the roof.
