Skymax CE – Smoke Extraction
This electric smoke hatch for stairwell meets all European standards and EU conditions for stairwell smoke extraction. Skymax CE is operated by a Skycom Skymax CE control unit with an integrated temperature detector. Skycom can operate independently or be connected to the BMS, the building’s fire alarm system, or the automatic daily ventilation system. In any case, fire safety is guaranteed by the temperature sensor in the Skycom CE Skymax control unit, which automatically opens the hatch at a temperature of 70° C.
Of course, the Skymax CE hatch can also be opened manually by pressing a ventilation button or the emergency opening button in case of fire.
Skymax CE – Daily Ventilation
Besides providing natural lighting for the stairwell, you can use Skymax CE for natural building ventilation, either by opening/closing from a button or by integrating the hatch into:
- the existing BMS (Building Management System);
- the building’s climate and ventilation system;
- connection to a local weather station (temperature, rain, wind, CO2 sensors, etc.);

Stairwell Smoke Extraction Legislation
The current fire protection regulations (Fire Safety Regulations for Buildings, indicative P 118-99, from 07.04.1999) clearly stipulate the obligation of smoke extraction in general and the stairwell smoke extraction norms applicable in Romania. Thus, according to P118/1999:
“Smoke extraction, through organized natural draft, of closed stairwells, is achieved by automatic and manual opening of the smoke evacuation device (located in the upper third of the last level of the stairwell) and the air intake opening (provided at the bottom of the stairwell) […]
Rooms […], as well as evacuation stairwells and buffer rooms without natural light, are equipped with smoke evacuation devices, representing a minimum […] and 5% of the built area of the stairwell (but at least 1 sqm for each stair), or with mechanical smoke evacuation systems. […]
At the top, the stairwell must have a smoke evacuation device (hatch) with a free area determined according to the regulations, but at least 1 sqm, with opening possibilities ensured by command from the access level to the stair.”
