Automatic Doors for Medicover Hospital in Bucharest
Adapted to the hygiene, safety, and comfort requirements of the medical sector, the automatic doors from KADRA were the perfect solution for access in various areas of the new Medicover Hospital.
Medicover Romania, a top player in the private healthcare services market, has opened a new hospital in the north of Bucharest, in the Pipera area, following an investment of 31 million euros. The hospital is located in a former office building, has nine floors and 160 beds for continuous hospitalization, as well as 22 beds for day hospitalization.
For this ambitious project, KADRA teams proposed and implemented the complete range of medical doors: from hermetically sealed doors for operating rooms, to lead-lined doors for radiology rooms, to automatic doors on wards or fire-resistant doors.
Important in defining clear and safe flows in a hospital, access solutions in various areas of the medical unit must meet reliability and safety standards to allow the proper conduct of medical activities. Automating doors in a hospital is an additional measure to limit intra-hospital infections as it reduces contact with various surfaces that may be exposed to contamination risk.
The size of the project was considerable, but the implementation was carried out in record time. The total area of the new hospital is 22,000 square meters and it is the fifth medical unit within the Medicover network in Romania, alongside a hospital in Bucharest, which will be transformed into a maternity, a hospital in Cluj, in Oradea, and in Craiova.
Automatic Doors for the Safety and Comfort of Patients
For the new hospital, automatic doors for operating blocks, radiology rooms, as well as other wards, and fire-resistant doors, located in areas designated for emergency evacuation, were configured and installed by KADRA teams.
Having specific features, such as sealing on all 4 sides and a special structure that causes the panel to lower and slide during the closing movement, thus ensuring perfect sealing. The hermetically sealed doors from the Tormed range created by KADRA specifically for the medical sector are a safe solution for operating rooms or those areas in a hospital that need to be most protected. For this category, the operator and the door have rounded shapes to reduce dust accumulation and facilitate cleaning.
Automations have an inclined upper part. Electrostatic energy is discharged to prevent dust accumulation. The automatic opening/closing system, based on sensors, eliminates the need for personnel contact with the door.
In the case of other medical doors installed on various wards of the Medicover Hospital, we are again talking about relevant advantages for an environment where hygiene should be a priority: due to the materials from which such doors are made (HPL), they can be cleaned with specific substances without degrading. They also offer protection to personnel by reducing the risk of injury through design and accessories used – “U” type handles made of stainless steel, stainless steel hinges, push plate, and kick plate. The construction of the panel ensures good thermal and sound insulation (additional sealing with retractable threshold can also be opted for).
A decisive role in saving lives in case of fire is played by evacuation routes. Maintaining these in working conditions is done by using fire-resistant doors and fire and smoke protection curtains. The fire-resistant doors installed by KADRA at Medicover Hospital are technically approved EI in Romania.

The Medicover Hospital project was a large-scale one, colleagues from the KADRA team configured, ordered, delivered, and then installed several hundred doors. All in a fast pace, and in good collaboration with the architects and builders involved in the project.
KADRA has a long collaboration with the private healthcare sector in Romania, among the projects for which our teams have proposed access control solutions, from doors to automatic parking management systems, are Regina Maria, Sanador, Ophtamax Clinics, Ovidius Clinical Hospital, Transylvania Medical Center, and others.
