Semi-hermetic and Hermetically Sealed Doors for the Preparation of the COVID Ward at the Marius Nasta Institute of Pneumophysiology
The COVID-19 pandemic was a real challenge for the Romanian medical system, which even under normal conditions had significant infrastructure problems. During this period, the suffering of hospitals in Romania intensified: lack of equipment for medical staff, infrastructure issues – old, unrenovated hospitals – lack of correctly designed intra-hospital flows to avoid the risk of contagion, etc. All these problems once again demonstrated that the Romanian healthcare system needs infrastructure investments more than ever. With willpower and long-term thinking, these aspects can be substantially improved for the benefit of patients and medical staff.
Frontline Hospitals Choose Solutions from KADRA
The Marius Nasta Institute of Pneumophysiology is today one of the frontline hospitals caring for critically ill patients diagnosed with COVID-19.
In the midst of the state of emergency, the Marius Nasta Institute had to prepare a special ward to treat COVID-19 patients, a ward that needed to be well isolated from the rest of the hospital to prevent the risk of contagion for other patients and medical staff.
To meet this need, KADRA teams responded quickly with a special, tailored solution, namely medical doors.
The Right Solutions: Semi-Hermetic Doors and Hermetically Sealed Doors
Two semi-hermetic doors and one hermetically sealed door were installed to delineate the area specially designated for cases diagnosed with the new virus.
Why did KADRA specialists propose these solutions?
The semi-hermetic door primarily means enhanced hygiene – by using rounded casings and covers with hidden screws, dust and particles are prevented from settling, and maintenance is much easier. Additionally, a series of special devices discharge the electrostatic energy accumulated on the moving panels, thus avoiding the attraction of impurities. Being automated, the door does not require touch from doctors or patients, thereby reducing the risk of nosocomial infections.
The automation is silent – thanks to anti-vibration operators, Tormed SER semi-hermetic doors are ideal for areas where quietness is an essential requirement. They also offer a safety opening system – ensured by a battery contained within the automation.
Regarding the hermetically sealed door, it is characterized by sealing on all four sides. The special structure of the door causes the panel to lower and slide during closing, thus ensuring perfect sealing.
Hermetically sealed doors offer maximum safety through presence detection sensors installed inside the automation casing, ensuring protection not only of the passage opening but also of the lateral opening movements of the panels to avoid accidental collisions with unforeseen obstacles.
Again, the main concern when proposing this solution was maintaining perfect hygiene: the operator and the door have rounded shapes to reduce dust accumulation and facilitate cleaning. The automations have an inclined top. Electrostatic energy is discharged to prevent dust accumulation. The automatic opening/closing system, based on sensors, eliminates the need for staff contact with the door.
The HPL surface allows frequent disinfection with various chemical substances, the material being particularly resistant.
Specialized Consultancy and Rapid Response in Project Implementation
The project was outlined and implemented very quickly, as required by the urgent situation faced by the Marius Nasta Hospital. KADRA specialists knew how to recommend the right solution for the hospital’s needs, namely semi-hermetic and hermetically sealed doors, to safely delineate the area dedicated to treating COVID-19 patients.
"Everything was completed in less than a month, from receiving the request to the actual implementation of the project and the installation of the three doors and the access control system. We strived to respond as promptly as possible because we understood the hospital's urgent need to secure its internal flows in this special context generated by the pandemic. The installation was carried out by KADRA teams under safe and hygienic conditions, complying with all protection standards required by the beneficiary."
