Service and Maintenance
The medical doors in a hospital operate continuously, under more demanding conditions than any other door. A malfunction in the operating room, the ER, or a high-traffic corridor is not just an inconvenience — it can directly affect infection control, medical flow, and patient safety. Regular maintenance of hospital doors keeps every system operating within its designed parameters.
Each type of medical door has its own critical points. For hermetic and semi-hermetic doors in the operating room, sealing and differential pressure matter most. For radiology doors, the integrity of radiation shielding is checked. For ER access, reaction speed and opening time are key. For fire-resistant doors, proper closing and locking mechanisms are tested. Maintenance covers sealing gaskets, automatic operators, touchless opening sensors, locking and interlocking systems, as well as adjusting closing speed and force.
For all medical doors, at least one annual inspection is recommended. In high-traffic areas — ER, operating room, main hallways — checks are recommended every 6 months. A consistent service and maintenance program reduces the risk of unexpected shutdowns and keeps equipment within the safety parameters required for medical use.
