NP 015-2022: What the regulation requires for hospital construction and how KADRA ensures compliance through its solutions

NP 015-2022 sets requirements for safety, hygiene, and functionality in hospitals. Discover how KADRA’s solutions – automatic, airtight, fire-resistant, or radiation-shielding doors – meet these requirements.

Modern, safe hospital doors for easy and secure access.

The NP 015-2022 regulation, the foundation for modern medical infrastructure

Published in Official Gazette no. 919 bis/2022, the NP 015-2022 regulation governs the design, construction, and operation of hospital buildings in Romania.

It establishes clear standards for safety, hygiene, and the efficient functioning of medical spaces – from hospital wards and laboratories to operating blocks, ICUs, and radiotherapy centers.

According to Article 1.2, the regulation applies not only to new construction but also to extension, modernization, refurbishment, or functional reconfiguration works, making it a benchmark for all current medical projects.

NP 015-2022 requirements and their relevance to KADRA's solutions

  1. Safety and control of medical flows

The regulation provides (chapters 3 and 5) for the functional organization of hospitals so that there are separate circuits for patients, staff, sterile materials, and waste, avoiding cross-contamination.

To support these routes, airtight doors and touch-free automatic doors are essential, allowing medical staff to pass through without touching and ensuring the airtight closure of sterile spaces.

KADRA has developed the Tormed range of specialized medical doors, which includes hermetically sealed doors and semi-hermetic doors for operating blocks and ICU wards, equipped with automatic systems certified to EN 16005, which maintain the required differential pressure between rooms and help control filtered air.

  1. Hygiene and cleanliness in medical risk areas

According to NP 015-2022, finishes and closing elements (doors, frames, jambs) must be washable, non-porous, resistant to chemical agents, and easy to clean.

For treatment rooms, laboratories, or sterile areas, the regulation requires smooth surfaces with no visible joints, which do not allow the accumulation of dust or bacteria.

The HPL or stainless steel medical doors from KADRA’s portfolio meet these requirements, offering high resistance to disinfectants and heavy traffic, while maintaining a professional, aesthetic appearance.

  1. Air, pressure, and contamination control

Annex A of the regulation establishes the ventilation, air conditioning, and climate control parameters for critical areas, where pressure differences between rooms must be precisely maintained.

For these spaces, airtight doors become functional components of the HVAC system, helping maintain positive pressure (sterile spaces) or negative pressure (isolation rooms).

KADRA’s hermetically sealed door solutions, integrated with access control systems, help maintain pressure differences and can be automated for synchronization with ventilation systems.

  1. Fire safety and evacuation

Article 5.3 of NP 015-2022 refers directly to P118 – the Fire Safety Regulation, specifying the fire resistance requirements for compartmentation elements and evacuation routes.

Doors located along evacuation routes must ensure secure closing, as well as easy opening in case of emergency.

KADRA supplies fire-resistant doors tested in accordance with P118 and EN 1634, complemented by automation systems that allow normal daily operation and automatic opening in case of an alarm.

  1. Radiation protection in imaging and radiotherapy rooms

Chapter 3.9 and the functional diagrams in Annex B of the regulation explicitly mention spaces such as radiotherapy, radiology, and nuclear medicine rooms, where special shielding measures must be provided.
Doors for these areas must contain materials that block ionizing radiation, protecting patients and staff.

KADRA offers lead-shielded doors, designed for radiotherapy and medical imaging rooms, which meet the shielding requirements set out in NP 015-2022 and the relevant international standards.

  1. Accessibility and operational safety

The NP 015-2022 requirements (Article 5.5) emphasize the need for all circulation routes to be accessible to people with disabilities and to allow the transport of patients on stretchers or in wheelchairs.

Automatic and sliding doors ensure quick, safe passage without physical effort.

KADRA’s automation systems for sliding doors, certified to EN 16005, are designed for safe use in high-traffic medical spaces, ensuring quiet and reliable operation.

Why compliance with NP 015-2022 matters

Compliance with this regulation is essential not only for obtaining approvals and permits, but also for the sanitary and functional safety of hospitals.

An unsuitable door can compromise infection control, air pressure, or emergency evacuation.

Through expertise gained over more than three decades of medical projects, KADRA offers not only compliant products, but also integrated technical consulting – from design to maintenance – ensuring full compliance with NP 015-2022.

If you are working on the design, modernization, or refurbishment of a medical facility, the KADRA team offers technical consulting and customized door and access system solutions compliant with NP 015-2022.
